“Do
the Right Thing” Movie Response So Far
Thus
far, I have been enjoying the movie “Do the Right Thing”. It is similar to the
way I pictured it when reading the script. The only thing that threw me off was
Vito and Pino where in the movie they look older than what I had imagined. The
same goes for Mother Sister where I had pictured her to look older than she
appeared in the movie. I imagined her looking more elderly, more like an 80 year old with wrinkles
and maybe glasses but in the movie, she doesn’t match that description. I feel
a little bit of sympathy for Da Mayor. No one really shows him respect like
Mother Sister or even the kids from the block. Ahmad called him a bum and a
worthless drunk and from his facial expression in the movie, I could tell these
words hurt him. Sure, the mayor shouldn’t be lazy and actually try to find a
job and lay off the alcohol but he hasn’t done anything wrong from what I
recall to be mistreated and harassed. Mookie seems to be a lazy and not responsible
type of guy. He takes breaks in between his deliveries and doesn’t spend time
with Tina and his kid. In the movie, he is wearing jordan’s, has a Brooklyn Dodger’s
Jackie Robinson jersey on and is wearing a medallion which symbolizes black
pride. He has tension with Pino who is always calling out Mookie. Sal doesn’t
seem too bad of a guy. I think he can be a little aggressive sometimes but it is
his pizza shop and if someone is doing something he doesn’t like he has the
right to tell them to stop or leave. Pulling out his Louisville slugger bat isn’t
really the right thing to do in certain situations but like I said, he does own
the shop.
All
in all, the movie is pretty interesting so far. Things are heating up in this
Brooklyn town and tensions are starting to rise on this hot summer day.
